the words and works of miss stacey derome..... aka ruby_door......
the journey home

One of my passions is to study forms and patterns of nature.  I love the constant, ever-changing adaptability that water provides.  I love the beauty inherent in each soft feather.
My obsession with painting water started with a simple observation.  I was walking by my community swimming pool by my apartment complex, and looked at the top of the water.  I was intrigued by the swirling pattern.  It immediately recalled and brought to mind Klimt's water paintings.  I loved the water's fluidity, the tiny swirls, the ever-changing pattern.  It wasn't any reflection of sky or clouds or any other refracted image...... it was solely the mysterious water that peaked my interest.

How long have you been an artist?  all my life :)

When did you decide to make art? Or was it a conscious decision?  i never decided to make art.  i have always been compelled to create.

Is there one particular artist or any person that helped you along way? A role model? A source of encouragement?  having an artist as a mother definitely spurred my creative spirit.  i grew up surrounded by water colors, colored pencils, charcoal, pastels, etc, etc.  i accompanied my mother to many art shows and festivals.

Of your work, what piece makes you feel like you’re onto something? Which one do you like the most? whenever i feel connected to a subject i feel as if i am *on to something.*  i tend to revisit the same idea, letting it build upon itself until it is settled.  i'm typically led toward another direction, taking a piece of the previous series with me.

Did you or do you ever feel like giving up?  If you did, what kept you going?  i have learned to listen to my muse.  she is always right! she knows when i need rest, when it is time to step away from my work.  when i fight her...disaster strikes.

To someone who wants to travel the path you’re traveling, do you have any advice?  follow your bliss and listen to what others have to say regarding your work, but always follow your internal instinct.

As an artist, what’s your biggest source of satisfaction?  seeing someone connect with my work on a personal level.

What is your favourite medium of choice?  acrylic!

You have worked to create a very viable internet presence for your work. How has that helped you?  the more you interact with the world, the more it will interact with you.  communication has never been easier than it is now.  i've been blessed in meeting many creative souls and collectors.  this is my constant source of support.
