Elements of her work.......
“One
evening (this was back in 2003) I went for a walk on the university campus and into the woods, came upon this building site
full of piles of white chalk stones and ended up incorporating these to create a sort
of sacred space in a clearing in the woods. It ended up as a six pointed star made up
of the masculine/fire and femininewater triangles. From then on my art would refer time and again to the
transformative elements of fire and water.”
“like
a journey of the soul mixed with landscapes and buildings, fields and cliffs imagined, dreamed and seen during travels. I
became increasingly interested in alchemy, photography, spiral dynamics, sacred geometry, symbols and their meaning in diverse
systems.”
Anna on where she lives on Tenerife
Island near the coast of Morocco....
“Being here living on a volcanic island with such manifold vegetation,
quite a raw and wild landscape at times and such a vibrant and energetic feel-that of the people and of the place has been
encouraging in the large colourful paintings I’ve made in the last 2 years- also I’m in love with plants and flowers-so
satisfying to spend hours in a plant shop sketching down a pattern of a leaf, the colour combinations in a flower and looking
into an open flower with its exact geometry and symmetry-so perfect the design of it, like a mandala it seems.
Plants and flowers are definitely a source of encouragement.”
Her motivations......
“I keep going because it keeps me in touch with
myself in a way: puts me back on track where my soul and my visions are heading and a overall image of
where I’m heading, what happens around me on different levels, the state I’m in and all. Triggers the imagination
and develops a personal style and way of looking at reality and life. It’s a way of staying true to myself and keeping
it real. You create your reality and work on it - it’s a way, at least for me, to keep letting go
and a way of going beyond oneself and beyond the everyday ruts and conditioning.”
Anna, to someone who wants to travel the path you’re traveling,
do you offer any advice?
“Remember/write down your dreams and reflect on
them.
Have a diary where you stick in drawings, images, photos that you have made, those given to you or those
that mean something to you quite intuitively.
Take time every day, even if only a short while, to look
at the pattern of a leaf, the sky with its formations of clouds, a flower, etc.
Yoga
(eg-kundalini, sahata yoga), creative visualization exercises…
Walking barefoot on a beach listening to the sea, listen
to the wind blow some scattered leaves around-becoming conscious of natural sounds around you.
Turn off the tv more
often and instead go for a walk, drive around the streets, switch on your imagination and train conscious awareness.
Go a healthy middle way seeing the bigger picture without losing sight of your aims/goals and without becoming too self-obsessed.
Keep trying and experimenting with form and colours.
Go to art exhibitions, walk the streets to sketch down
a pattern or something that captures your attention and liking. Let your unconscious unwind and free itself by drawing anything
that comes to you while on the phone. Keep going. Let yourself go.
Sort out, look through,
forgive and clarify your past to let go and transform yourself and others and be able to be in the now each time more and
take in more consciously and calmly what is going on around you. Practice positive affirmations starting
with “from now on I am…” (a creative, intuitive person. Each day I’m getting better and better at
believing in myself and carrying on trying).
Get to know yourself, your emotions, your drive, your sensual side. Use
all the senses to reach a higher consciousness and enter new vibrations, positive vibrations - I’m
trying this anyway
