what is art?
art is doing. it is making. it does not begin
in some vague abstraction. it is a physical process that allows the doer to transcend and move above the waves of this
world for a few moments.
"write only what sells. in fact, if you don't have a
buyer for it, you shouldn't even write it."
this was a quote from an interview with a fairly popular writer which
we saw in the newspaper. around the house, we've been discussing the comment for weeks. on the one hand,
kudos to the author for having such success. it's great that she can make so much money...... but i also feel bad for
her. sure i am happy when my work sells but there is no way that money is my primary motivation.
making art is.
when i set to work, i am looking to lose myself in the process. it's
the search for the transcendent. maybe i'm deluding myself. maybe artists should consider themselves just another
group of buyers and sellers..........nah.....that attitude wouldn't work for me. trying to make something beautiful
is all that counts. the rest is background noise.
it rains in the northeast today. maybe the last of the
warm rains before winter begins.
